MySQL Version explained

 Atikh Shaikh     mysql, mysql version, mysql version of instance     No comments   

Suppose version is —mysql-5.7.1-m1
where
mysql– explains database type- this is same for every release
5– major version release number
7– minor version release number
1– version in release series like 5.7.1, 5.7.2,5.7.3
mN – where n=1,2,3,… is milestone number
next one is ‘rc‘ i.e. release candidate if its not there it means it General Availability version which is recommended for prod
